Our signature blend returns for the Year of the Horse, combining two origins that tell the story of where Asian coffee is headed. Papua New Guinea brings a rich, chocolatey body with citrus complexity, while Indonesia's Rani Mayasari (one of the most talented producers in West Java) contributes a dried red fruit sweetness through her anaerobic natural processing.

2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse, something that only comes around once every 60 years. It's a year of high energy and bold moves, and this medium roast blend matches that spirit — balanced enough for every day (filter or espresso), but with enough complexity to keep every cup interesting.

ORIGIN DEEP DIVE

PAPUA NEW GUINEA

Papua New Guinea sits just south of the equator in the southwestern Pacific, and its coffee industry is still relatively young compared to its neighbours. Most of PNG's coffee is grown by smallholder farmers in the Highland regions, where volcanic soil, high altitude, and tropical climate create ideal growing conditions. The Typica varietal dominates here — brought over decades ago and now well-adapted to the terroir. Washed processing is common, and produces cups that are clean, structured, and often chocolatey with citrus-driven acidity. PNG is an origin to watch.

INDONESIA

Indonesia is one of the world's largest coffee-producing countries, split across major growing regions including Bali, Flores, Java, Sulawesi, and Sumatra. The country is historically known for its wet-hulled (giling basah) processing — a method born out of necessity in high-humidity environments, where beans go through multiple drying stages. But Indonesia's specialty scene is evolving fast. Producers like Rani Mayasari in West Java are pushing boundaries with washed, natural, and anaerobic processes that highlight sweetness and complexity far beyond what the traditional earthy Indonesian profile might suggest. This coffee is a great example of that new wave.

What's exciting about this coffee

Papua New Guinea is a relative newcomer to the specialty coffee scene, and that's exactly what makes it exciting. We're finding the profiles from PNG to have a big chocolatey body and citrus complexity in their acidity — characteristics that are distinctly PNG and hard to find elsewhere.

On the Indonesian side, we're working with Rani Mayasari from Javahalu Coffee in West Java. Rani is an incredibly talented producer who's gained recognition for her meticulous approach to processing. Her anaerobic natural fermentation brings out a dried red fruit sweetness that pairs beautifully with the PNG's structure.

Together, these two origins create a blend that represents what Coffee Wallas is all about — showcasing the breadth and quality of Asian coffee in a way that's approachable and delicious.
